His ranch holdings were very large and his sheep and cattle numbered in the thousands. His other business interests were many and included the Clayton Commercial Company (Wool Warehouse) and the Otto-Johnson Mercantile Company. He served on the board of the Methodist Church in 1900. Was elected County Commissioner 1901-04 and 1909-11. His wife Clara passed away in 1905. The 1910 census for Clayton has him listed with a 2nd marriage of 3 years. The 1910 Census for Ward 10, Denver, Colorado has a Leonora Otto age 28, married, with Christian's two children John S. 18 and Myldreth E. 14, living with her.
