Note:

took seven weeks and several days to make it to the USWent from Galveston, Texas to New Orleans, up Mississippi to St. Louis then to Shoal Prairie in Clinton County, Illinois (now Breese). Had to walk halfway from St. Louis until they met up with people with oxen and a wagon who agreed to bring them onBarbara and John came on the same ship from Germany and got acquainted during the long trip.John and Barbara were some of the first inhabitants of Breese. They shared a loghouse with two other families until John and another carpenter had built a large two story frame house, which was later lived in by John's grandson Raymond. The loghouse was just one large room, having a very crude floor. John made the furniture out of logs and wood found near the house. The loghouse was still on the farm in 1932 and was being used as a pig sty.John moved to town in 1863 and lived with his daughter, Mrs. Otto Stumpf where he had a furniture store. He survived a bout of small pox.seven children total - 5 girls, 2 boysalso listed as Johannesparents might be Georg Jacob Schroeder and Maria Margaretha Renner- found a christening record on IGI that has a convenient date but no proof Jan 18, 1818 in Bayern lists as Johann Adam Schroeder
